Getting the train to Anne's Place
Even if you are unfamiliar with train travel, and have some fears about communicating with the ticket office or boarding the right train, it is not difficult.
Ticket purchase: There are two options - the automated machines in the main terminal and at the end of the platform, and the ticket desks.
1. All of the automated machines have an English option. You can tell the machine that you are leaving from Roma Termini, and that your destination is Zagarolo. It will tell you that the ticket is €2.30, put in the money (they give change), and you have your ticket.
2. The ticket desks are split in national and international, go to a national desk, ask for a "singolo, or a solo andata" to Zagarolo (or due singoli)
You will need to validate the tickets at the small yellow ticket machines at the end of each platform.
The trains:
Are quite frequent, and you will find the timetable here
In the station you will find electronic display boards with the next trains (up to about 90 minutes in advance), but also departures are posted at the end of the platforms (in the main concourse). These are the most informative of everything, in that they give you every train departing, all of the stops, and - most important - the platform it is supposed to depart from. Now I say supposed, because, like every thing in Italy, it might not be. So - you check the next departure on this board, you check the electronic board (which, by then, will have given you the correct platform), you go to the platform. Then check the board above the platform, which will tell you which train it is, where it is going and what time it departs, Then check the small screen just to confirm that it stops in Zagarolo (count the number of stops if you like). Now if you want belt, braces and sticky tape - as you board the train, just ask anyone - "Zagarolo ?"
When you get to Zagarolo, you can call either using your mobile (cell phone) of go into the Caffè Europa on the right or the Bar Stazione on the left as you exit the station house and ask them to call "Anne's Place". Either way, we will be there in 10 - 15 minutes.
Now - if you get into trouble with any of this, simply call from the Termini, and we'll talk you through it ...................
